Borealis viderefu00f8rer sin lidenskap for radioformatet ved u00e5 invitere Jenny Berger Myhre, Elina Waage Mikalsen og Autumn Chacon til u00e5 dykke inn i sine ulike musikalske og kunstneriske praksiser og reflektere over kompleksitet og kraften av u00e5 bruke sin stemme. Jenny Berger Myhre sitt verk Slowly I wake up to my other life er en intim fortelling om det u00e5 lytte til den myke stemmen u2013 den vi hu00f8rer nu00e5r vi dru00f8mmer, og i tankene vu00e5re u2013 stemmen vi sparer til dem vi elsker. Verket hyller intimiteten i talemeldinger, spesielt de som er tatt opp tidlig om morgenen, eller rett etter du har vu00e5knet fra dyp su00f8vn. Slowly I wake up to my other life er en poetisk komposisjon for radio om det u00e5 ikke vite hvilke valg man skal ta, hvor man skal bo, eller hvordan man skal tilbringe dagene som kommer og gu00e5r u2013 om hvordan man lu00e6rer seg u00e5 godta usikkerhetene i livet og fortsatt beholder en leken nysgjerrighet.
Elina Waage Mikalsen kombinerer sine egen ru00e5e stemme som instrument, med ord og elektronikk, selvbyggede instrumenter og feltopptak for u00e5 vekke til livet spu00f8kelser, som i samisk kontekst omtales som mennesker fra underverdenen. Elina utforsker den eviglange utslettelsen av samiske stemmer og historier i Norge. I verket fu00f8res en samtale med de du00f8de for u00e5 oppdage de store hullene i historien, der tru00e5der tilbake til fortiden nu00f8stes opp, og muligheter for fremtiden skapes.
Autumn Chacon sitt What Will Be Lost er et verk skapt gjennom tett samarbeid med Sandra Marja West u2013 samisk aktivist, kunstner og representant for Gu00e1isi valgkrets i Sametinget. Chacon trekker pu00e5 sine egne erfaringer som forekjemper for rettighetene til urbefolkningen i USA, og verket stu00e5r i solidaritet med samenes pu00e5gu00e5ende disputt med store gruveselskaper som ekstraherer kobber i Su00e1pmi. What Will Be Lost vil vu00e6re to parallelle kringkastinger der du hu00f8rer en tale rettet mot den tyske kobberindustrien, som forstyrres av lyden av landskapet, vannet, dyrene, og folket som rammes av uthentingen av kobber i Su00e1pmi.*
*Chacon og West ble kjent nu00e5r familien til West tilbragte vinteren i 2016/17 i North Dakota for u00e5 delta i protestene ved Standing Rock, der en planlagt oljeru00f8rledning truet med u00e5 u00f8delegge livsgrunnlaget til det amerikanske urfolket Lakota Nations. De to vennene ble gjenforent vu00e5ren 2017 nu00e5r Chacon og en delegasjon av kvinner fra den amerikanske urbefolkningen kom til Norge for u00e5 megle med norske banker og Stortinget med det formu00e5l u00e5 fu00e5 dem til u00e5 kutte stu00f8tte til USA sin utbygging av oljeru00f8rledninger. De lykkes i kampen, og Norge trakk 3,5 milliarder dollar i stu00f8tte.

Jenny Berger Myhreu2019s Slowly I wake up to my other life is an intimate story about listening to the soft voice u2014 the one we hear in our dreams, and in our thoughts u2014 and the one we keep for our loved ones. It pays tribute to the intimacy of voice messages, specifically those that are recorded early in the morning, or just after sleep. A poetic radio composition about not knowing what to choose, where to live, or how to spend the days that come and go, and about coming to terms with the uncertainty of life and attempting to stay curious.
Elina Waage Mikalsenu2019s TBC combines her voice raw, as instrument, and with words with electronics, her self-built instruments and field recordings to bring to life ghosts, or in the sau0301mi context “underworld people”. Exploring the long history of erasure of su00e1mi voices and stories in Norway, this new work brings a conversation with the dead to reveal the intentional gaps in historical narratives and restores connections to the past, whilst creating opportunities for the future
Autumn Chaconu2019s What Will Be Lost is a new collaborative work between the Indigenous US based artist and Sandra Marja West, su00e1mi activist, artist, and member of the su00e1mi Parliament. Drawing on her own history of vocal activism, Autumnu2019s work stands in solidarity with the current dispute the su00e1mi face against big copper mining in su00e1pmi. What Will Be Lost, is 2 simultaneous broadcasts in which words directed at the German Copper Buying Industry is interrupted by a second broadcast of the land, water, animals, and peoples who will be negatively affected by copper extraction in su00e1pmi.*
* Chacon and West first became friends when Sandra’s family spent the winter of 2016/2017 at the Standing Rock occupation in North Dakota, United States where a proposed oil pipeline threatened the livelihood of the Lakota Nations. They were reunited in spring 2017 when Autumn and a delegation of North American Indigenous women travelled to Norway to plead with its banks and parliament to divest from the North American pipeline and were successful in a 3.5 Billion dollar withdraw
